A Brief Reminder

A few days ago a batch of new mulch was laid down at the base of the trees around our apartment complex. That night, once the sun went down, life began to emerge. As I was heading out to work that day I noticed the mulch, but I also noticed the dozens and dozens of little mushrooms that had grown up in it over the few hours of night. When I came back home again that afternoon, the mulch bare and all the mushrooms had perished in the heat of the sun.

Those little mushrooms did not have much time, but they grew to their fullest beauty as quickly as they could before the heat of the day overcame them. For all I know, besides Lindsey, I could have been the only one to ever notice those mushrooms. They certainly weren't able to spore off any more mushrooms, and I can only assume that their very brief life was simply the unintended result of the damp and dark climate of mulch storage practices. However, In the few moments that they did have, they grew strong, they stood beautifully, and even if for no one's benefit but their creator's, they did their utmost to accomplish the purpose for which he designed them. God appreciated their beauty. God appreciated their efforts. God was glorified in their life.

For all of us who have toiled in what feels like meaningless work, who have been scorched by the heat of would-be providers, and who continue to press forward with his design for as long as God enables, be encouraged. God sees and God knows, and he is always glorified when his creation lives out the purpose he designed them for.
